Miami in winter is art and design

— 05 December 2017

34 galleries, 11 installations by Design Curio, as well as a broad range of proposals in the sections Satellites, Collaborations and Design Talks, without forgetting the exclusive events, all held a few steps away from Art Basel Miami Beach, the first American contemporary art exhibition.

The 13th edition of the Global Forum for Design will take place in Miami Beach from December 6th to December 10th, bringing together the most influential collectors, gallery owners, designers and curators. 34 galleries, 11 installations by Design Curio, as well as a broad range of proposals in the sections Satellites, Collaborations and Design Talks, without forgetting the exclusive events, all held a few steps away from Art Basel Miami Beach, the first American contemporary art exhibition. This year Design Miami has got it all!

FROM AMERICA WITH LOVE
The main focus of the five-day fair will be the strong presence of historical and contemporary American designers such as George Nakashima, Katie Stout and the Haas Brothers at R & Company; the twin artists Doug and Mike Starn will show their first furniture collection at Cristina Grajales Gallery.

SHAKER, SHAKER, SHAKER
For the first time Design Miami / includes examples of furniture by Shaker, a movement focusing on shape and proportions, asymmetry and multipurpose elements adding visual interest without being classified as pure decoration. The presentation of John Keith Russell Antiques (South Salem, New York) at Design Curio proposes amazing examples of the Shaker tradition belonging to their broad range of products and including tables, chairs, desks and heaters along with smaller objects such as boxes and baskets.

A CUSTOM-FITTED LIVING ROOM INSTALLATION
The couple of designers Muller Van Severen were asked to create a complete reproduction of their real living room. ‘Wild Thing’, an incredible installation created in collaboration with Airbnb, is made of very personal objects “whispering” stories from the lives of the two designers.

SPRING IN DECEMBER
New Spring is a sculpture, interactive installation similar to a tree, resulting from the collaboration between COS and Studio Swine.

GLASS AND STEEL FOR THE BOUROULLEC BROTHERS
Nuage, designed by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, will be inaugurated at Miami Design District. The steel and stained glass structure is perfectly in line with the neighbouring buildings and façades and projects graphic shadows.
