[四季折々 SHIKI-ORIORI -Seasonal Beauty-] by Yamaga Shikki at Japanese Kaiseki Restaurant "Ristorante HAZAMA"

“A feast for the senses: Kishu lacquerware and Kaiseki cuisine in Milan”
During Milan Design Week 2025, Kishu Lacquerware producer Yamaga Shikki and kaiseki restaurant Ristorante HAZAMA will collaborate to showcase the beauty of Japanese lacquerware and the elegant appeal of traditional kaiseki cuisine.

To commemorate Milan Design Week 2025, a new line of Kishu lacquerware “SHIKI-ORIORI” produced by Yamaga Shikki will be unveiled for a special gastronomic event at kaiseki restaurant Ristorante HAZAMA located in the Zona Tortona district of Milan for a limited time from Tuesday, April 8 through Saturday, April 12.

The new product brand “SHIKI-ORIORI” celebrates a theme of the changing of the seasons in Wakayama Prefecture via a symbolic transitional white motif. At this special event, guests will have the opportunity to witness the aesthetic appeal and potential of traditional Japanese o-bon trays which played a significant role in the historical development of Kishu lacquerware.

Located in Kainan, Wakayama, lacquerware maker Yamaga Shikki strives to invigorate both its local community and hand-made crafts with a vision of “inviting lacquerware,“ producing a unique amalgamation of traditional technical craftsmanship and modern design sensibilities. With Yusuke Taguchi Design at the helm, the event is set to offer a stunning experience for visitors that combines the aesthetic beauty of Kishu lacquerware and the refined culinary art of kaiseki ryori.

Disciplined at illustrious restaurants across Italy, Ristorante HAZAMA chef Satoshi Hazama embodies a culinary passion that earned him a spot in Italy’s Michelin Guide. Chef Hazama wows even the most seasoned gourmets with his kaiseki prowess, masterfully incorporating local seasonal ingredients in his dishes which demonstrate a meticulous adherence to the five basic culinary techniques of Japanese cuisine.

Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to try a limited-time course prepared by Chef Hazama on Yamaga Shikki lacquerware. Kaiseki-ryori like you’ve never seen it before—a spectacular fusion of Japanese culinary tradition and seasonal Italian ingredients served on the carefully hand-crafted, immaculate lacquerware pieces produced by Yamaga Shikki. We invite you to join us to revel in this harmonious blend of Japanese art forms.

SHIKI-ORIORI

White, a vessel devoted to transition.

[SHIKI-ORIORI -Seasonal Beauty-]

White, impressionable by its very nature, can be swayed to take on other colors and auras.

White can provide pause lacking in the noise of modern life.

White can reflect the disposition of its beholder.

Flowers, sand, crashing waves, fog, snow--the multifaceted natural landscape of Wakayama resonates profoundly with the Japanese aesthetic spirit through the color white, rendered through the historical form of o-bon trays which have been a central feature in centuries-old ritualistic Buddhist and Shinto offerings of gratitude.

The function of these versatile o-bon varies depending on certain factors, including height, size, and the presence of the rim.

With but a dash of playful modification, the elegant beauty of white breathes tranquility into daily life.
