Brands Baranzate Ateliers

The brainchild of Zaventem Ateliers – a creative art and design hub founded by Belgian designer and architect Lionel Jadot in 2019 – Baranzate Ateliers is the latest in a series of trailblazing initiatives which have seen the transformation of vast industrial “wastelands” around Brussels, Paris, Lisbon and Milan into dynamic showcases for pioneering design talent. All these endeavours share a core mission imbued with the same spirit, philosophy, and values. With a strong emphasis on manual and experimental craftsmanship, their unique hive-like approach brings together an unprecedented community of like-minded and freethinking makers, providing a stimulating environment which actively fosters collective and innovative artistry.

The curatorial programme of Baranzate Ateliers features a panorama of vibrant new works by 14 designers from Zaventem Ateliers. Working in full synergy and guided by a deep commitment to societal and environmental values, the makers have produced unique and innovative designs that harmoniously blend creativity with sustainability. With creations ranging from fortress and bunker-inspired furniture to objects crafted from a combination of clay, sand and gravel, the many highlights include wood-crafted minimalistic and functional designs by Arno Declercq, abstract tapestries by KRJST Studio, cast bronze LED pendant lights by DIM Atelier, metallic textiles by Adeline Halot, and brand-new Resourcer coffee tables by Thomas Serruys, featuring rough-cut steel planets with forged legs, and a selection of raw yet refined works by Maison Jonckers which fuse minerals and precious metals with coloured resins. The programme is further enriched by a group of specially invited guests operating at the intersection of art, design, architecture and fashion whose practices and philosophy perfectly align with the vision of Baranzate Ateliers. Among the works to be unveiled by the 11 invited designers and design studios, primarily from France and Belgium, are three brand-new series fashioned out of blocks of stone and wood by Studio Khachatryan, a showcase of furniture meticulously handcrafted by Middernacht & Alexander out of recycled steel, pigments, resin and varnish, and exquisite monochrome wall sculptures by Marijke De Cock, crafted in shades of royal blue, black, and gold, and richly adorned with elegant glass beads. Further highlights include unique hand-woven sheepskin rugs by Carine Boxy, bronze hand- sculpted lighting pieces by William Guillon, and sculptural ceramics and functional vessels by Laura Pasquino, seamlessly blending smooth lines with rugged finishes and exploring the interplay between art and nature. The event will also welcome several collectives into the fold including Belgium is Design, and THEMA from Paris.

Lionel Jadot says: ‘Baranzate Ateliers is a hub of contemporary excellence, merging collectible design with a dedicated curatorial vision. The radical 7,300 sqm space amplifies the relevance of the showcased creations, converging contemporary talent with historical remnants and collectively pushing boundaries towards poetic beauty. Leading the way towards a collaborative approach to collectible design, the event echoes the Zaventem Ateliers motto: strength lies in unity. It fosters a philosophy centred on the sharing of spaces, ideas, and energies in order to cultivate distinct and positive emulation.’
