Materials in Flux
A symposium curated by Formafantasma
Filodrammatici Theatre, Milan
17 - 19 April 2023

After the success of the 2022 edition dedicated to the theme 'On Forest', Prada Frames, the multidisciplinary symposium curated by Formafantasma that investigates the complex relationship between design and environment, returns to Milan.

The 2023 edition of Prada Frames Milano is dedicated to the theme 'Materials in Flux'. Prada thus chooses to promote a reflection whose ethical and aesthetic implications, from the unprecedented creative potential to the low-impact production perspectives opened up by the use of innovative recycled materials, have long been central to its research.
The symposium's work is based on the studies of the British anthropologist Tim Ingold, for whom matter is a living, interconnected and ever-changing entity, and aims to explore the concept of waste, delve into the dynamics governing waste infrastructures and their valorisation systems, and analyse the complex relationship between matter and ecosystems.

Around these topics, a rich programme of encounters: six sessions over three days, from 17 to 19 April, will bring together scholars and professionals from different fields of research, such as, among others, Tim Ingold, Elizabeth Povinelli, Beatriz Colomina, Mark Wigley, Sophie Chao, Veena Sahajwalla and Hans Ulrich Obrist.

The event is hosted at the Teatro Filodrammatici, one of the oldest theatrical institutions in Milan, located a few steps away from the Teatro alla Scala and Piazza Duomo.
The Accademia dei Filodrammatici, founded in 1798, found its seat there in 1800, transforming the building at the beginning of the last century into the Art Nouveau style whose façade is still preserved today; the interior was redesigned by architect Luigi Caccia Dominioni in the 1960s with an intervention on the imposing access staircase and the floor mosaics, the latter executed by sculptor Francesco Somaini.

The event is open to the public but registration is required. Seating is limited and registration does not guarantee access, so it is strongly suggested to arrive early (doors will close 15 minutes before the session and will reopen only at the end of the session).
