There are two fundamentals that we are surrounded by: sound and matter. It’s hard to find a true silence, and it’s even impossible to not find organic elements around. Which is the connection between these two entities? Scientifically when a sound vibration touches a new material, it can be absorbed or reflected, and in any case through moving and interacting air molecules vibrate, hit each other and propagate the mechanical wave into ears through the form of acoustic energy.
Sound is the principle of human speech, is the reason why living beings hear things and improve their brains. “The sound of matter” represents an immersive and interactive installation made by Milan based collective Wanderlust Vision with the collaboration of Imola Ceramica. It’s a research study about frequencies and how those ones can be transformed and managed, it’s a dialogue between analog and digital tones, it’s a performance where auto generative music and visual projections move together.
The sound is created by a combination of robotic solenoids that interact with acoustic instruments and ceramic objects thanks to midi signals generated by a computer. On top of this music surface/carpet every guest can add his own touch, pushing the keyboard connected to the solenoids and making them react and play. At the same time, visuals change as the audio changes creating a very intimate harmonic dance.
