fuorisalone japan

Building on the experience made in 2019 with the OSAKA×MILANO DESIGN LINK project, Fuorisalone Japan is a platform that shares the identity and know-how of Fuorisalone.it to communicate the best of Japanese design, creativity and lifestyle against the backdrop of its key cities, Tokyo and Osaka.

The aim is the promotion to the Japanese public of the best of design staged in Milan during Design Week as well as the creation of a specific design community, a cultural and commercial bridge between the two worlds.

The project was born on the occasion of the first Fuorisalone event in Japan - in Osaka in October 2019 - called Design Link, a festival created in collaboration with Daimaru, the largest Department Store in Japan.

The first step of the project saw the creation of a database of contacts of Japanese designers and companies linked to Milan Design Week in order to define the context and identify its protagonists. On the occasion of the four editions of Fuorisalone proposed in 2020 and 2021, despite the pandemic, Fuorisalone promoted and reported on these realities on its channels, starting the promotion of the project.

The medium-term goal for Fuorisalone.Jp is to become a reference point, a community organised around the world of Japanese design capable of creating strategic and commercial opportunities, in view of the major events of the future.

The Osaka experience

OSAKA×MILANO

Between October and November 2019, OSAKA×MILANO DESIGN LINK took place, a collaboration between Fuorisalone.it and Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Stores, with the support of the creative agency Drill.

The collaboration is one of the events promoted on the occasion of the Grand Opening of the Main Building of the Daimaru Shinsaibashi Store in Shinsaibashi, Osaka, which took place on September 20, 2019.

OSAKA×MILANO DESIGN LINK is a design festival on the streets of Shinsaibashi, the first in a series of events aimed at long-term cultural growth. In this first edition, Fuorisalone.it and Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Stores offered nine special design displays in different areas of the newly renovated main building and inside some local showrooms. Daimaru Shinsaibashi's exclusive products, in a mix of fashion and design, merged with the Fuorisalone displays to bring uniqueness and excitement to the building and the entire neighbourhood.
