Designers Gianandrea Barreca
Architect, expert in architectural design, with particular attention to the morphological and compositive themes of architecture, always related to the context, sustainability and natural elements.
He began his professional activity in 1994 and 1999, with Giovanni La Varra and Stefano Boeri, he founded Boeri Studio. In January 2008, together with Giovanni La Varra, he founded the professional studio Barreca & La Varra. His projects include the Bosco Verticale, the new Siemens Headquarter and the Cantù/Orefici Building in Milan, the Villa Mediterranée in Marseille, the Misheel Expo hotel in Ulan Bator, Mongolia, and The Office in Muscat, Oman. Some social housing projects are in construction site in Genoa and Milan, the new ICS international school campus in the Symbiosis district and the new Policlinico in Milan. The projects of the Milanese studio have won numerous international awards, and in 2019 they won the C40 Reinventing Cities international competition with the INNESTO masterplan for the Scalo Greco Breda in Milan. In 2019 they were named "Best Urban Architectural Design Firm 2019 - Milan" by the British magazine BUILD. In 1993 he is one of the founding members of Gruppo a12, with which he promotes and realizes seminars, researches, exhibitions, installations on the contemporary urban condition and in particular on the relationship between urban context and public art. Since 2004 he has taught at the Domus Academy in Milan where he was for 6 years Director of the Master in Urban Vision and Architectural Design, and part of the
prestigious Metaphysical Club. Since 2009 he is contract professor in architectural composition at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Genoa.
In 2015 he was awarded by the Newschool of Architecture and Design in San Diego with the prestigious "Global Design and Innovation Award". In December 2018 he was nominated member of the Technical and Scientific Committee for Contemporary Art and Architecture of Mibac.
