Designers Dejana Kabiljo

Dejana Kabiljo creates art, architecture and design for all of us with little weaknesses, bad habits and obsessions. She first launched her brand, Kabiljo Inc., in 2001 with an exhibition at the MAK, Museum of Applied Arts / Contemporary Art in Vienna.

Her objects  have an operative functionality integrated into the work as a poetic element, thus defying easy categorization.

They are realized with profound respect for the material, obsessed with excellence, based on Viennese craftsmanship, as well as on newest technologies, resulting in impeccable finish.

Kabiljo exhibits extensively in museums and galleries, but also on obscure locations in: Vienna, Milan, Florence, Split, Zagreb, Belgrade, Lausanne, Winterthur, Paris, St.Etienne, Tourcoing, Barcelona, Ghent, Kortrijk, Brussels, Eindhoven, Moscow, Los Angeles, New York, Beijing und Tokyo.

Her work appeared in almost everything, from The New York Times, Financial Times, Corriere della sera, La Repubblica, Die Presse, Jutarnji List, to glossy magazines like AD, Elle Decor, Interni, Abitare, Domus, Ottagono, to several books.

Dejana represented Austria at the first Design Week in Beijing in 2011 with LetThemSitCake!, an artistic intervention consisting of 4,5 tons of real wheat and fake chocolate.

Dejana Kabiljo was lecturer at the department of Design, University of Applied Arts in Vienna and art director of the Vienna Museum of Technology.

Kabiljo is speaker and guest lecturer, held workshops at conferences and universities in Vienna, Belgrade, Ljubljana, Sarajevo, Stockholm, Moscow and Holon, Israel. 

Kabiljo graduated in architecture from the Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade, and received her Master Degree in design from the Domus Academy in Milan.

She is recipient of different grants and prizes, Japan Foundation Fellowship for Artists, an extended summer in Tokyo in 98, being the most pleasant, and departure, City of  Vienna grant for creative industries the most important one.

Her works are included in collections of: the MAK, Museum of Applied Arts/Contemporary Art, Vienna,

Museum of Applied Art Belgrade, in the collection of  the Wien Museum and in various private collections.

Dejana Kabiljo was born and grew up in Split on the Adriatic coast, she lives and works in Vienna’s 1st district.
