CASA TATSUMURA
Takashimaya and its long-standing partner Tatsumura Textile present CASA TATSUMURA, a joint exhibition that reinterprets Japanese aesthetics and offers the international public a collection of furnishings in which artistic fabrics become an expression of contemporary Japanese culture.
CASA TATSUMURA celebrates both the minimalist, silent beauty typical of Zen aesthetics and the vibrant, colourful dynamism of the fabrics. This dual perspective reflects the creative legacy of Heizō Tatsumura, now in its fifth generation. For more than a hundred years, his textile designs have recounted the seasons and traditions of Japan as authentic masterpieces. On this occasion, they will draw inspiration from their historical heritage to help build a new vision of this balance between space, culture and nature. Tatsumura's artistic fabrics, historically used for obi (kimono belts), are now accessible to a wider audience. The collection transforms traditional elements such as coffered ceilings (gotenjo), folding screens (byōbu) and andon lamps, not as simple objects, but as an expression of function, materials and aesthetics, reflecting everyday wisdom and aesthetic sense.
Thanks to the collaboration with Karimoku Furniture Inc., these fabrics become functional and elegant pieces of furniture, revealing materials, techniques and design, and making Japanese textile art visible in all its complexity and beauty.
