Event 2026

INTERNI MATERIAE @Univesità degli Studi di Milano

Materials, disciplines, and ideas intertwine to rethink design in a sustainable, creative, and multidisciplinary way

From April 20 to 30, 2026, on the occasion of the FuoriSalone in Milan, the magazine INTERNI, directed by Gilda Bojardi, presents INTERNI MATERIAE, the new widespread Exhibition-Event that will enliven some of the city’s most emblematic locations: the University of Milan, the Brera Botanical Garden, Portrait Milano, Eataly Smeraldo, and Urban Up | Unipol De Castillia 23.

MATERIAE is both the title and the statement of intent of the 2026 event, continuing the curatorial journey focused on the design and cultural value of design. The Latin term materiae—chosen deliberately—opens up to a multiplicity of interpretations: materials, disciplines, subjects. It reflects a broad vision that mirrors the complexity and hybrid nature of contemporary design.

The exhibition will explore the technical, experimental, and creative value of materials, highlighting new production technologies—from 3D printing to the use of biomaterials, up to the most advanced sustainable solutions. At the same time, MATERIAE will serve as a space for dialogue among different fields of knowledge and languages—design, architecture, ecology, philosophy, mathematics, and applied physics—within a multidisciplinary synergy capable of generating new visions for a more equitable and regenerative future.

As every year, the INTERNI Exhibition-Event will be the beating heart of the FuoriSalone, transforming Milan into an open-air laboratory for international design and offering citizens, professionals, and visitors an unprecedented cultural and sensory experience.

MATERIAE: matter as experience, process, and relationship

Matter is never neutral. It preserves traces, produces consequences, and activates relationships. The INTERNI Exhibition-Event observes it not as a simple support for form, but as the core of a narrative that brings together technology and craftsmanship, nature and artifice, industry and poetic vision. Each installation becomes an independent chapter, yet part of a broader narrative in which visitors are invited to move, pause, and participate.

University of Milan: the narrative heart of INTERNI’s exhibition-event

The historic headquarters of the University of Milan is transformed into a true collective narrative, where matter manifests itself through light, architecture, technology, artistic gesture, and industrial experimentation. Courtyards, porticoes, loggias, and transitional spaces host a constellation of installations that interact in a continuous flow, shaping a multisensory experience.
