INTERNI MATERIAE
From April 20 to 30, 2026, during Milan's FuoriSalone, INTERNI magazine, edited by Gilda Bojardi, will present INTERNI MATERIAE, a new multi-venue exhibition and event that will bring to life some of the city's most emblematic locations: the University of Milan, the Brera Botanical Garden, Portrait Milano, Eataly Smeraldo, and Urban Up | Unipol De Castillia 23.
MATERIAE is the title and mission statement of the 2026 event, which continues the curatorial journey exploring the projectual and cultural value of design. The Latin term "materiae"—chosen not by chance—opens to a multitude of interpretations: materials, disciplines, and topics. A broad vision that reflects the complexity and hybridity of contemporary design.
The exhibition will explore the technical, experimental, and creative value of materials, emphasizing new production technologies, from 3D printing to the use of biomaterials, and the most advanced sustainable solutions. At the same time, MATERIAE will be an arena for dialogue between diverse fields of knowledge and languages—design, architecture, ecology, philosophy, mathematics, applied physics—in a multidisciplinary synergy capable of generating unprecedented visions for a more equitable and regenerative future.
As every year, the INTERNI Exhibition-Event will be the beating heart of the FuoriSalone, transforming Milan into an open-air laboratory of international design, offering residents, professionals, and the curious an unprecedented cultural and sensorial experience.
MATERIAE: Matter as Experience, Process, and Relationship
Matter is never neutral. It preserves traces, produces consequences, and activates relationships. And the INTERNI exhibition-event observes it not as a simple support for form, but as the fulcrum of a narrative that unites technology and craftsmanship, nature and artifice, industry and poetic vision. Each installation becomes an independent chapter, yet part of a broader narrative, in which the visitor is invited to move, pause, and participate.
University of Milan: the narrative heart of the INTERNI exhibition-event
The historic headquarters of the University of Milan is transformed into a veritable choral novel, in which matter manifests itself through light, architecture, technology, artistic gesture, and industrial experimentation. Courtyards, porticoes, loggias, and passageways host a constellation of installations that interact in a continuous flow, shaping a multisensory experience.
