Brands Studio Kloak

Studio Kloak is an American zero-waste sustainable design studio that combines production, research, and experimentation. Part design studio and part incubator, it fosters an environment based on education and hands-on practice, where all materials and products are handmade. Founded by Professor CoCo Ree Lemery of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, the studio aims to reduce global waste by transforming materials into unique collectible pieces. Between all the experimentations, the Onion Skin bio-based material stands out for its translucent, flexible properties, made with one of the most common household waste products. Designed for lighting applications, this byproduct becomes a functional and innovative material, encouraging reflection on the use of traditional materials such as alabaster and stalactite stone, increasingly rare due to continuous extraction.
