The place to be during Milan Design Week 2025

While most brands take a classic approach to participating in Milan’s iconic design expo, Modular Lighting Instruments takes a different path, opting to build its own custom space that tells the story of light in a way you can feel. The Belgian company, specialising in architectural indoor lighting that blends top engineering with refined design, brings its vision to life in the spaces of Club San Babila, in the heart of Milan.

Designed by Brussels-based Erased Studio, The Spot is a curated event space created especially for the duration of Milan Design Week 2025. A mysterious hideout right in the middle of the bustling city, The Spot is a high-end, immersive meeting place that hosts events designed for both learning and entertainment. Thanks to its meticulous lighting and spatial design, the ambience of the space changes depending on the time of day and the type of event.

The rich daily programme is built around three moods:

1. EXPERIENCE

The concept of the space is rooted in a masterful balance between technical complexity and pure design forms, a true manifesto of Modular’s philosophy. The first level honours precision and craftsmanship, highlighting the materials and details that define each product. Descending to the lower level, guests will witness how light evolves into the main yet subtle actor that shapes the space. An installation featuring 49 Thimble spotlights creates changing scenarios for a variety of events that will take place at The Spot, all bound together by the ongoing networking opportunities at the bar and evening aperitivos.

2. ENLIGHTENMENT

TALK | Engineered to perfection

Product première by Jeffrey Huyghe and Jelle Busschaert

For those seeking food for thought, Modular’s designer Jeffrey Huyghe and engineer Jelle Busschaert will share the 'making of' story behind Straw—the newest linear luminaire for workspaces, which is a shining example of radical simplicity and modularity. In their pursuit of refined minimalism, Huyghe and Busschaert stripped its tubular shape to its essence while adding an unexpected functional twist. A design- and technical triumph.

Talks hosted daily

Tue-Sat 9:30, 11:00 | 30 min

WORKSHOP | Give it a Minude

A hands-on workshop to build your own custom luminaire

Guided by Modular’s experts, this practical session invites participants to grab some tools and explore the engineering behind the Minude luminaire family. This essential piece, loved by architects worldwide, may hold more secrets than one would expect at first glance. It’s a unique opportunity to discover just how complex the road is toward ultimate simplicity.
