Artisanal bakeries, art and design galleries, wine bars, and museums: Martina Uderzo and Alessandro Maffioletti share their favorite hidden places in the Nordic capital
Martina Uderzo and Alessandro Maffioletti (aka Alvvino) are communication consultants for brands operating in the worlds of fashion, art, and design. Once again, they’re preparing to head to Copenhagen - a city they try to visit as often as possible. Why? “We’re drawn to its harmony, its calm, and that perfect balance between functionality and beauty that never fails to deeply inspire us,” they explain. We asked them to share their perspective on the Danish capital, what makes 3daysofdesign unique - especially compared to Milan Design Week- and to reveal some of their favorite hidden spots around the city.
What, for you, is the true soul of Copenhagen, and how has your view of the city changed over time, as regular visitors?
When we first arrived in the city, what struck us most was its “sustainable” approach—not just environmentally, but in design and human relationships, too. Copenhagen felt like a city built to support people’s well-being, especially in spring and summer. Over time, our perspective has evolved: today we feel more like observers than just visitors. We’ve learned to appreciate how the city stays true to itself while constantly evolving, and how every corner can offer a creative surprise.
Being in Copenhagen has taught us the value of productive calm, and that unique balance born from the meeting of innovation and tradition. The city’s attention to detail and relaxed atmosphere make it the perfect place to reflect on our work and rediscover a renewed sense of creativity.
Vitra - 3daysofdesign 2024
What sets 3daysofdesign apart, especially compared to Milan Design Week?
3daysofdesign has a completely different identity—almost the opposite—compared to the intensity of Milan Design Week. You really can’t compare the two. Milan is a major international stage where energy and visibility take center stage. 3daysofdesign, on the other hand, is more intimate, more reflective. In Copenhagen, design blends into the city in a natural, unforced way: spaces, galleries, concept stores, and studios come to life with quiet spontaneity. That very spontaneity is one of the things we find most fascinating.
This year’s theme, KEEP IT REAL, celebrates a return to essence and honest design. In a way, it reflects the spirit of the city itself: less concerned with dazzling, and more focused on what truly matters. Unlike the fast-paced, competitive rhythm of Milan, Copenhagen offers a calmer atmosphere. Here, design doesn’t need to shout to get attention—it simply stands out with authenticity.
Any local projects, brands, or designers that impressed you during your visits?
Yes, quite a few projects have left a mark on us, each in its own way—but all share a strong spirit of innovation and a genuine dedication to quality design.
Kvadrat has long been one of our go-to brands—not just for the excellence of their textiles, but for their ability to constantly evolve while staying true to a thoughtful, conscious production process. Rawii and Frama draw us in for different reasons, but both reflect the city’s spirit through their essential, contemporary aesthetic.
Etage Projects is an exhibition space we consider a real landmark. Every project hosted there breaks conventions, poses questions, and invites reflection. It’s a place where creativity and research meet, offering a vision of design that’s always fresh and never predictable. We’re also very curious to explore Other Circle, which this year will host a selection of international brands.
