T-CORE
Last year, the evolution of Toyota Boshoku core technology - seating - was introduced through an R&D initiative called S-CORE. By leveraging engineered variations in lattice structures, the project redefined how pressure distribution can be optimized.
T-CORE represents the next step in advanced seating design, building on the foundation established by the 2025 S-CORE project. Developed using cutting-edge 3D printing technologies, T-CORE introduces a new paradigm of comfort, performance, and personalization.
At its core, the project explores the potential of polymer-based additive manufacturing, with a focus on TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane). This enables the creation of highly responsive and flexible structures, allowing precise control over geometry, density, and elasticity - resulting in a seat that dynamically adapts to the human body.
A key innovation within T-CORE is the integration of pressure mapping into the design process. By analyzing how the body interacts with the seat under various conditions, three distinct configurations have been developed: Comfort, Relax, and Sport. Each configuration is defined by targeted material distribution and structural tuning to support specific postures and performance requirements.
The seat’s geometry is derived from extensive ergonomics research conducted in Japan, where seating behavior was analyzed point by point. Decades of expertise have informed this process, resulting in a form that appears simple, yet embodies a high level of refinement and accumulated knowledge.
T-CORE is not simply a seat, but a living interface between user and machine. It is engineered to enhance ergonomics, reduce pressure points, and deliver a superior seating experience through material intelligence.
Compared to its predecessor, S-CORE, T-CORE marks a significant advancement:
- Improved performance through refined lattice structures
- Enhanced durability and material resilience
- Greater adaptability across different body types and usage scenarios
- Designed around an ideal seating posture
Presented by Toyota Boshoku during Fuorisalone at Milan Design Week, T-CORE embodies the convergence of design, engineering, and digital manufacturing.
The project reflects a vision in which seating becomes intelligent, lightweight, and sustainable - opening new possibilities for the future of mobility interiors.
This year’s initiative includes digital engineering development in collaboration with NTT DATA, alongside polymer structure innovation with Supermateria. All cushion data was subsequently printed in Pescara by Treddy.
T-CORE is not just an evolution; it is a transformation in how comfort is designed.
