The “Lines of Flight” installation of the 5th edition of Porsche's “The Art of Dreams” for Milan Design Week 2024 is a large suspended network to climb in the city center.
“The Pattern of Dreams” is the 5th edition of the travelling art and design series “The Art of Dreams” by Porsche – a global initiative able to connect the public with creative communities, through the commission of artworks inspired by the theme of dreams. Since its launch in Paris in 2021 at Palais Galliera Museum, “The Art of Dreams” has visited major art platforms, including Singapur Art Week, Milan Design Week and Art Basel Miami Beach. For Milan Design Week 2024, “The Art of Dreams” will celebrate motif, rhythm, symmetry and repetition, by premiering “Lines of Flight”, by design collective Numen/For Use - a monumental interactive artwork inspired by the iconic pepita houndstooth motif first featured in 356C, 911 Porsche. “Lines of Flight” refers to the act of escaping, flowing, leaving and dissolving into the distance. The framework of the artwork is a system of light metal cells over which a sort of skin in the form of a transparent net is stretched or fluidly unfolded recalling a colony of vibrant wings. The suspended net eludes any kind of control, confinement or capture. Like a “floating landscape”, the installation encourages visitors to climb into it and explore this social immersive sculpture like a “social hammock” and a location of escape, transition, fantasy and freedom. Other artistic explorations of this motif will be presented at “The Art of Dreams”, including a series of hypnotic dancing performances bringing artworks to life.
