Introduction
This page aims to provide useful information to companies and interested parties on how to submit projects to be included in the Milan Design Week 2026 program and consequently be able to apply for licenses for the occupation of public land, public entertainment, and catering/sales. The City of Milan's program aims to promote and coordinate initiatives dedicated to design in its various forms: exhibitions, art installations, workshops, laboratories, meetings, debates, and awareness-raising activities.
The Municipality of Milan publishes an annual Public Notice for the selection of projects to be included in the program.
Who can participate
Both public and private entities may apply, either individually or through collective entities representing multiple operators.
Benefits for selected projects
Initiatives accepted into the program will benefit from:
- authorization to use the Milano Design Week trademark;
- visibility on the City's communication channels;
- economic benefits on the COSAP Single Property Tax for the occupation of public land and for advertising.
Participation process
- Application: fill out and submit the application on the dedicated page of the Municipality of Milan in response to the Public Notice. If the application to the SUEV office is submitted by a representative, a letter of authorization must be filled out immediately.
- Evaluation: the municipal working group analyzes the projects from a content perspective in relation to the priority themes announced and, if approved, sends a letter of eligibility with any requirements.
- Obtaining authorizations: The applicant or representative may proceed with submitting the application to the SUEV (Single Event Desk) to obtain all permits, licenses, authorizations, and approvals related to the project through the GeoPortal. Please note that the application must be registered by the applicant or their representative at least 30 days before the first day of occupancy, including the days required for set-up.
- Sending materials/applying the MDW logo: provide texts and images for publication in the City of Milan's program. Apply the MDW logo to the promotional and communication materials provided by the client in accordance with the guidelines issued by the City of Milan.
Project content and consistency
The content presented during the application phase must be the same as that submitted in the application to the SUEV. Any changes must be communicated promptly to the relevant offices.
Simulation and concessions on the Single Property Tax
The Municipality of Milan provides tools to simulate the calculation of the COSAP tax for the occupation of public land, available at the following link.
During the event (April 20-26, 2026), the selected initiatives will benefit from the most favorable concessions provided for in the Single Property Tax Regulations, with a multiplier coefficient of 0.50, except for exemptions already provided for.
The rates for advertising on public land will be reduced by half, in accordance with the regulations, with any additional charges related to requests made to the SUEV.
Additional costs
The initiation of the procedure at the One-Stop Shop for Events entails additional costs to be borne by the applicant, including:
- revenue stamp (€32) and administrative fees (€61.50)
- Cost of personnel responsible for submitting the application (if the application is handled by a third party on behalf of the client)
- Any additional permits (advertising, loading and unloading, etc.);
