A campsite, a residence, and a co-living: the Fuorisalone 2024 pushes us to reflect on the hospitality system during major events (finding surprising solutions).

The Fuorisalone, as we know, is a very particular period for those arriving in Milan from outside and looking for a place to sleep. Especially if you are a young student with a thirst for discovery and knowledge, who comes to the city to take a tour de force among the exhibitions and installations in search of new ideas, inspirations and intensive updates.
This year, however, there are 3 initiatives that have put reflections on "temporary living" at the center, proposing new and highly designed solutions that offer useful alternatives for rethinking the Milanese hospitality system during major events, even in the long term.

Runaways from AFTER?
Runaways is a habitable exhibition, within which the space will host some people free of charge: about ten every day. The guests were asked to organize an open activity during the days of their stay: culinary rituals, meditation sessions, DJ sets, workshops... The cultural center for creatives in Porto di Mare will be transformed into a large house, with kitchen, table dining room, lounge, shower (outdoor) and four bedrooms. Not a simple hospitality service, therefore, but an active reflection on the precariousness of contemporary living and the potential of collective solutions.

We Will Design - The Convivial Laboratory
BASE Milano, for weeks, has been preparing to become an outpost of radical thought during this Fuorisalone, transforming itself into a place of political presence where designers, artists and students can inhabit and reinvent the space. BASE opens its doors during Milan Design Week to the construction of a temporary community that will live and work within the former Ansaldo complex, transformed for the occasion into a "convivial laboratory".
