From 9 to 11 April 2027, the first edition under the artistic direction of Cloe Piccoli

miart is changing its name to become miart milano. More than simply a new identity, the edition taking place from 9 to 11 April 2027 at Allianz MiCo marks the beginning of a three-year project led by the newly appointed artistic director Cloe Piccoli, aimed at expanding the fair’s scope and forging a closer relationship with Milan. The city becomes an integral part of the project: no longer simply the setting for the event, but a context in which galleries, artists, collectors, institutions, foundations and businesses can connect, while further strengthening miart’s international reach.

The fair remains at the heart of the project and in 2027 will be reorganised into three sections. Main Section Contemporary and Modern / Atlas of Arts will bring together modern and contemporary art galleries; New Voices will focus on younger galleries and emerging trends, with site-specific projects conceived especially for the fair; while Close Up. Solo Shows and Conversations will present monographic projects and dialogues between two or more artists, proposed by a single gallery or developed through collaborations between two galleries. The fair’s physical setting will also change. An international architecture studio will be commissioned to redesign the entire layout, from entrances and circulation routes to communal and exhibition spaces, while Left Loft will develop a new visual identity.

The relationship with Milan takes shape above all through three new curatorial projects. In & Out. Citywide will connect miart milano with the city’s cultural heritage, giving participating galleries the opportunity to create an installation within a public museum in Milan. On Film will focus on the moving image, with video works presented both at the fair and at other locations across the city. Editions, Publishers & Magazines will, for the first time, take on a clearly defined curatorial approach, with a dedicated space and a programme exploring some of the most interesting developments in contemporary publishing. During the same period, Milano Art Week returns from 5 to 11 April, with a week of exhibitions, projects and art initiatives unfolding across the city. Its collaboration with miart milano will be further strengthened for the 2027 edition.

The lead-up to April will begin as early as December with The Ring, a series of five conversations with Francesco Bonami, who will invite leading figures from the international art and cultural worlds to iconic locations across Milan. January will see the launch of Art Communities Conversations, a project developed in partnership with the Brera Academy of Fine Arts and other institutions across the city; while miart milano Commission will establish a programme of public commissions, with the first project scheduled for 2028 and conceived to leave a lasting mark on the urban fabric. A new editorial project is also planned between 2028 and 2029.

With its new name, Cloe Piccoli at the helm and a programme that progressively extends beyond the boundaries of the fair itself, miart milano makes its relationship with the city an integral part of the project, creating new connections between the market, cultural production and the international art scene.
