Events, projects, installations and districts: the first previews of the initiatives planned for the Milan Fuorisalone 2024, together with two exceptional collaborations.

From 15 to 21 April the Fuorisalone returns to Milan, the moment of the year when the city comes alive to celebrate the world of design with exhibitions, widespread installations, presentations and appointments in the showrooms.
The theme proposed by as a key to reading and interpreting this year's events is Materia Natura, a concept which, by relating these two words, aims to promote a culture of conscious design.

Discover here the extensive calendar that brings together brands, designers, architects, schools, universities and institutions, who once a year share ideas that shape the present with particular attention to the future and the environment. Design practices are, in fact, able to highlight sustainability as a guiding principle and fundamental value in the creative process and design. With a focus on the issues of circular economy, reuse, sustainability of processes and materials, Fuorisalone will be held as usual in conjunction with the Salone del Mobile.Milano, which this year reaches its 62nd edition.

With this edition, an exceptional collaboration is born, with miart - the international modern and contemporary art fair in Milan, to promote an increasingly close relationship between art and design, which together contribute to giving shape to a very important month for culture contemporary in the city. In fact, there are many contents that arise in the context of miart and are designed to cross over into Milan Design Week, just as there are many Fuorisalone events in which art is the protagonist. Miart and Fuorisalone will therefore work to produce content, itineraries and guides related to art in Milan during the days of Design Week, tips for selected Milanese galleries, new itineraries proposed by Nicola Riccardi - Artistic Director of miart - to discover places in the city, and events that involve the involvement of artists within the Fuorisalone schedule of events.

The collaboration then continues for the second consecutive year also with Salone del Mobile.Milano, to enhance the exhibitors present both in the fair spaces and in the city, according to a dedicated path in the event guide and on the interactive map of, with indication of the position of the stands between the different pavilions and of the location of the event in the city, designed to orient oneself within a selection of events organized by the most important brands in the design and furniture sector.

Discrict and areas

Brera Design District offers a busy calendar with over 260 events in the district and 196 permanent showrooms. The 2024 coordinated image was entrusted to Studio Ianus, a reality born from the meeting of two visions, illustration and animation, expertly used to describe the district. This collaboration inaugurates a new language for the district, which anticipates the publication of a free press magazine in distribution from the summer of 2024.

The Tortona area returns with a new look and a communication proposal aimed at bringing together and describing the different realities that animate it: Tortona Rocks, Tortona Design Week, Superstudio and BASE Milano.

5VIE Art+Design, with the new edition "Unlimited Design Orchestra", proposes and amplifies the theme of the last edition "Design for Good", that is, that of design understood as a tool for creating and cultivating profound human vibrations, with a view to sustainability rooted in collaboration and sharing as happens with the elements of an orchestra.

Milano Durini Design presents the theme COLOR: color is design, it is emotion, it is life, it is the essential element of daily living and the most exclusive lifestyles. The color will be expressed through a path of tactical urban planning and elements spread within the MDD district.

Isola Design District presents a journey through the sustainability and functionality of design, showing its potential in addressing real issues by anticipating the future of the sector and expanding into new areas: Lampo Milano, WAO PL7 and Galleria Bonelli. Five group exhibitions and numerous guest installations will highlight circular design, new materials and craftsmanship. Furthermore, Isola welcomes various realities from the Middle and Far East promoting global connections.

Design Variations, for its 4th edition, moves to a garage on the Darsena: a hidden place where Nathalie Du Pasquier welcomes with a site-specific work, while the Park Associati design studio signs the modular installation.

Capsule Plaza, a hybrid between fair and collective design exhibition, returns after the success of the last edition, combining the presence in Spazio Maiocchi - an evocative former industrial cathedral - with a second location, the iconic Milanese destination 10 Corso Como.

Dropcity, a project curated by architect Andrea Caputo, opens to the city from 12 to 21 April, hosting an intense program of exhibitions, installations, conferences and talks with the participation of international architects and designers.

Convey is a project that creates a system between contemporary brands within the spaces of the Basic Village in the Farini area, with new products, installations and activities.

Tortona Rocks presents Prelude. Introduction to the design of the future: a wide range of contaminations between art and design, between new technologies and ecological responsibility. Among the highlights, IKEA presents 1st, Archiproducts Milano brings the project signed by Studiopepe, the collaboration of NOROO Group with the street artist Okuda San Miguel and AG&P greenscape fuses nature with AI.

Base Milano returns from 15 to 21 April with WE WILL DESIGN, the experimental laboratory platform that welcomes and promotes projects by designers from all over the world. Through meetings, residencies, talks and exhibitions, the fourth edition of the event is dedicated to conviviality. The appointment is preceded by a public program focused on the theme of coexistence curated by the curator-in-residence Erika Petrillo and by the TALAMO installation, curated by the architectural duo Lemonot.

Superstudio with the Superdesign Show looks further with its concept “THINKING DIFFERENT - everything, everywhere, everyone”.

Baranzate Ateliers: curated by Zaventem Ateliers, a creative art and design hub founded by the Belgian designer and architect Lionel Jadot in 2019, the Baranzate Ateliers project returns to Milan Design Week after the success achieved in 2022. This year Baranzate Ateliers will occupy the spaces of via Gaudenzio Fantoli, a monumental 7,300 m2 industrial building from the 1950s near Linate.

Porta Venezia Design District returns with an inclusive and contemporary vision of design that well interprets the chameleonic, irreverent, cosmopolitan soul of the neighborhood.

ID-exe 2024: chooses the theme "Shaped by Design", a widespread exhibition that aims to explore the importance of design and digital as drivers of urban progress and innovation in various sectors such as health, food, technology and education.

Zona Sarpi is a new platform that promotes the network of cultural projects and events related to design and which will develop along Via Paolo Sarpi, at the Chinese Cultural Center and will have a selection of projects at the Fabbrica del Vapore and the ADI Design Museum.

Event highlights

Stark, in relation to the theme "Matter Nature", presents "Transitions", an installation that invites a multisensory exploration of the states in which matter manifests itself. For the first time, going down into the Hall of Pillars of the Sforzesco Castle will be like entering a material in transition, thanks to the signs that water generates with and within it.

An artistic project by Silvia Badalotti and Cristian Confalonieri, developed by Studiolabo in collaboration with Condiviso. A reflection on the use of Artificial Intelligence in the creative field, which combines the most innovative technology with the tradition of analogue gaming. memorIA is a traditional memory game that invites players to discover not two identical images, but rather two different images created thanks to generative artificial intelligence.

glo, in continuity with 2023, reconfirms itself as the main sponsor of Fuorisalone through a further stage of the large itinerant artistic project "glo for art" with an immersive installation designed by Emiliano Ponzi in via Statuto.

“Born in Oasi ZEGNA" will give the opportunity to live the immersive experience of Oasi Zegna and the brand new collector's book. Through a path that intertwines art and nature, you will be able to walk among the lush vegetation of the forest and interact with the stories and the images that animate the pages of the book. “Born in Oasi ZEGNA” represents a fascinating tale of legacy and responsibility, which highlights ZEGNA's profound commitment to people and the environment since its foundation in 1910. The Oasis Furthermore, Zegna will be the protagonist of the green re-arrangement of the flowerbed in Piazza Duomo where the palm and banana trees planted 7 years ago are replaced by the typical plants of the garden-oasis in the Biella Alps, with thickets of camphor bushes and evergreen plants, but also flowers, such as rhododendrons and philadelphus which will attract pollinating insects and enrich biodiversity.

Porsche returns for the second time to Milan Design Week with the work "The Pattern of Dreams", the 5th edition of the traveling art and design series "The Art of Dreams". It will explore pattern, rhythm and repetition, premiering “Lines of Flight,” a monumental, interactive artwork by Numen/For Use, inspired by the iconic nugget motif and brought to life by hypnotic choreography.

Veuve Clicquot presents “Emotions of the sun”. The Maison de Champagne celebrates its Solaire Culture with an exclusive photographic exhibition in partnership with Magnum Photos. The exhibition, staged in an elegant space designed by internationally renowned scenographer and designer Constance Guisset, highlights the more than 250 years of history of Veuve Clicquot seen through the contemporary lens of eight world-renowned photographers, who interpret the Solaire Culture of Maison in 40 shots that represent an immersive journey around the world. Next to the exhibition, a Clicquot Café will be set up where you can taste the iconic Cuvées of the Maison combined with an all-day menu signed by starred chefs.

Google presents Making Sense of Color. This immersive journey from the ethereal to the material highlights how color is fundamental to perceiving the world around us, but at the same time represents a fundamental aspect of Google's latest hardware project. The installation in via Archimede was created by Ivy Ross, Vice President of Hardware Design at Google, and her design team, in collaboration with the Chromasonic artistic and research laboratory.

Dermophonic, Matteo Cibic's experimental project for Starbucks Reserve Roastery Milan: the Dermophonic event offers an emotional journey intertwining art and the flavors of coffee at the Starbucks Reserve Roastery. An ingenious sound artist creates small sound portraits while patrons savor the roundness of a fine blend exclusively for the Milan Roastery. Participants are enveloped in a tangle of memories and family memories aroused by the aroma of freshly extracted coffee, while the musician gives life to a personalized soundscape through the Dermophonic 3.0 instrument, specially designed by Cibic. For the occasion, the designer created a limited edition of Domsai and hand-decorated ceramic plates, inspired by the state of euphoria he felt during his first tasting of the blend.

Fornasetti transforms the dining room with a new wet bar and a buffet, tables with new shapes and materials and chairs that combine the charm of history with the comfort of upholstered fabrics. Also on display is the object of the collaboration between Poltrona Frau reinterpreted by Fornasetti.

Artemest presents the second edition of L'Appartamento, a celebration of the beauty and uniqueness of Italian craftsmanship and design within a new location in the 5VIE district: a suggestive Milanese residence from the early twentieth century.

Grohe presents “Salus per Aquam”, a new immersive experience in one of the most renowned locations in Milan: Palazzo Reale.

IKEA presents 1st: The 1st exhibition will explore the many “firsts” that younger generations experience when they get to have their “first” place to call home. The focus will be on the stories of the first moments experienced by people around the world. The week's program includes the launch of new products, a space dedicated to food, lots of music and events focused on the concept of "first time".

Lasvit "Re/Creation", a monumental installation in fused glass to enhance the mastery of the Czech brand and the innovative approach to design, architecture and glass production.

Dotdotdot presents “Data Bugs. AI is a mirror”. AI is a powerful mathematical model to which we provide enormous amounts of data. By processing them, AI creates images, makes decisions, provides directions, proposes solutions. It builds a world that is the mirror of who we are. But who are we?

Marsèll announces the collaboration with the Berlin architecture studio Gonzalez Haase AAS within its Milanese spaces with AAS:object:project, an exhibition installation inside the Marsèll showroom in via Paullo, and a site-specific work in the flagship store in via della Spiga.

Materially presents Materially NOW, a plural format that physically and symbolically places at the center the in-depth analysis of materials that define the present and mark the path of the future according to three major orientations.

Hendrick's at the Fuorisalone, a dedicated route for a gin and tonic at design week. Hendrick's Gin renews its partnership with Fuorisalone for the third consecutive year, to support the launch of the new limited release of Scottish Gin.

THE GLITCH CAMP powered by IED - The Milan Design Week more accessible to young people: an urban camp set up, thanks to the collaboration with the Municipality of Milan and Milanosport S.p.A., in the spaces of the “Enrico Cappelli Savorelli” Sports Center to welcome the student community free of charge and young designers from all over the world arriving for Design Week.

Marella participates in Milan Design Week 2024 with the installation "Eden Unveiled" by the Sicilian artist Domenico Pellegrino inspired by the myth of the birth of Spring, which will illuminate the windows and interior of the Marella flagship store in Corso Vittorio Emanuele.

HOME EVERYWHERE '24 / Human Technology. The 3rd edition of A Casa Ovunque, organized by The Playful Living and Sfera Mediagroup in the historic location of the Autofficina Fiorentini in Via Savona 35, in the heart of the Tortona area, has as its theme "Human Technology", i.e. technology, understood in the broadest sense truly useful to man.

Belgium is Design - BOLD Dualities returns with a major exhibition that will bring together over 30 designers and design studios, curated by the Baroness O studio. The exhibition presents a particularly bold and unconventional selection of objects.
