Previews of the Salone del Mobile.Milano 2024

News, Milan — 14 February 2024

The news, the routes, the cultural project, the opportunities for companies and a renewed collaboration between the fair and Fuorisalone.it

The initiatives launched this year by the Salone del Mobile.Milano can hardly be counted on one hand, as it rethinks its trade fair format to offer an increasingly immersive and engaging experience. This, which will be the 62nd, is in fact envisioned as an edition with a high content of diversity, in which the various activations are designed for the needs of the public who pass through the city of Milan during the busiest week of the year, and with a large schedule of cultural moments and spaces.

First of all, the layout and distribution of the pavilions and common spaces have been rethought and optimised, together with the itineraries of EuroCucina and the International Bathroom Exhibition. This redesign was carried out thanks to the contribution of neuroscience and around the human-at-the-center philosophy.

Secondly, the fair spaces will host three large installations.
The first, "Interiors by David Lynch. A Thinking Room" will be composed of two mirrored "thought rooms" imagined as symbolic doors to be crossed to immerse oneself in the Manifestation. With them, the Salone reflects, in an original and imaginative way, on the production of interiors and on how deeply this relates to the interiority of those who furnish that space as an external projection of the self.

"Under the Surface", then, designed and created by Accurat, Design Group Italia and Emiliano Ponzi for the Salone Internazionale del Bagno, focuses on ethics, sustainability, technology but also on power, charm and fragility of water. In fact, where are we at the design of bathroom furniture in relation to water sustainability? "Under the Surface" will take the form of a submerged island capable of triggering a visual and evocative but also deeply educational story to help the visitor become aware of the environmental impact of our daily practices related to water. The reflections of light, which move and change incessantly, will represent data on global water consumption while, through the innovative use of dynamic data-visualisation, technological progress and manufacturing companies linked to water conservation in the bathroom furnishings sector.

At the centre of EuroCucina the third: a large fluid and welcoming stage will host six international food magazines which, together with artists, designers and chefs from all over the world, will present a new and original vision of the present and future of the ingredients that nature offers us. "Ali, what you always wanted to know about food design in Six Performances" is the capstone title of these projects which, between reflections, exhibitions, talks and the experience of taste, will follow one another day after day.

There will then be a new program of Talks and Round Tables, entitled "Drafting Futures. Conversations about Next Perspectives", curated by Annalisa Rosso, which will bring together some of the most interesting personalities of our time, who, with their virtuous practices, are laying the foundations for a more conscious future. The morning talks - with Francis Kéré, John Pawson, Jeanne Gang and Hans Ulrich Obrist - will be held at 11.00 in the "Drafting Futures" Arena designed by Formafantasma, recovering the sessions from the previous edition.

In this edition, however, right in the Arena, a new project will be inaugurated: the Library of the Salone del Mobile, also designed by Formafantasma, which will collect, at the suggestion of the speakers of this and future editions of the event, volumes intended to change - for the better - our actions and future prospects.

It will be a special year also for SaloneSatellite, which will celebrate its 25th edition with 600 talents under 35 and 22 design schools. This year's theme will be "Connecting Design since 1998" to highlight how this event has served as a stop for more than 14,000 budding designers and established fruitful relationships between cultures and projects from all over the world. To celebrate this milestone, an exhibition at the Triennale (from 16 to 28 April) whose exhibition project is curated by Beppe Finessi and set up by Ricardo Bello Dias, who rethink the entire history of the event by bringing to the stage the wonderful and complex relationship between the world of production and young designers.

Finally, last but not least, the collaboration between Salone del Mobile and Fuorisalone continues. To enhance the visibility of the exhibitors present both in the fair spaces and in the city, a map will come to life on Fuorisalone.it in which to consult both the position of the different brands in the pavilions at the fair and the list of their events in the city.

“Capturing new trends, the evolution of an entire sector by involving and listening to communities near and far, identifying new approaches, methodologies and technologies, experimenting, in an expression of staying on the frontier: this is still the ambition of the Salone del Mobile today" says Maria Porro, President of the Salone del Mobile.Milano.
