Capsule Plaza returns to Spazio Maiocchi, bringing the project back to its original home as the surrounding area continues to establish itself as a destination for exhibitions, international brands and independent initiatives during Milan Design Week.

The fifth edition will extend beyond its Milanese headquarters through a series of special projects and satellite venues across the city, continuing a development that has gradually expanded the event's footprint over the past few years.
The relationship between Capsule and Spazio Maiocchi began in 2023, when the format made its debut at the venue on Via Maiocchi. Bringing together designers, companies and institutions, the programme spans interiors and architecture, innovation and craftsmanship, hospitality and entertainment. That first edition already extended beyond the main exhibition space, incorporating a former garage at Via Maiocchi 10, directly across the street. Spazio Maiocchi had begun developing its own identity several years earlier. Established in 2017 through a collaboration between Carhartt WIP and Slam Jam, the venue was conceived as a platform for exhibitions, events and projects connecting fashion, art and design. Its location and adaptable architecture helped establish it as a reference point for a new generation of independent initiatives during Milan Design Week.

In 2024, Capsule Plaza extended its programme beyond Via Maiocchi, introducing 10 Corso Como as an additional venue. The following year, its presence in the Porta Venezia area expanded further, with new locations at Via Maiocchi 23 and Piazza Risorgimento 8, alongside a programme involving international designers and galleries. The growing concentration of events along the same street gradually established a recognisable destination within Milan Design Week, with Spazio Maiocchi serving as one of its main reference points.

IKEA's decision to move to Spazio Maiocchi in 2026 marked another significant development. For that year's Milan Design Week, the Swedish company selected the venue for Food for Thought, relocating after four years in the Tortona district. Held at Via Maiocchi 7 from 21 to 26 April, the project explored the relationship between food, design and everyday life. IKEA's presence reflected a broader transformation of the area, where international companies and galleries have increasingly joined independent creative initiatives and exhibition projects with distinct curatorial identities. Via Maiocchi has consequently gained greater visibility during Design Week, developing its own identity without being formally organised as a dedicated design district.

For 2027, Capsule Plaza returns to its original headquarters with a format that retains its hybrid structure, combining elements of a design fair and a collective exhibition. The announcement also confirms a further expansion through special projects and satellite venues, while the new issue of Capsule, the annual publication exploring contemporary interpretations of radical design, will be released during the event.
