Inside the Museo del Violino, Sala Effe is a project dedicated to exhibitions, new productions and private collections
Cremona adds a new address to its cultural map. Sala Effe has just opened, a space dedicated to contemporary art housed in a wing of the Museo del Violino, in the city’s historic centre. Its name borrows the “f-holes” carved into the body of the instrument, while also anticipating the idea of a project that, although maintaining an independent programme, is conceived in relation to the museum that hosts it. More laboratory than traditional museum, Sala Effe will operate along two fronts. On the one hand, curated exhibitions featuring new productions and loans; on the other, projects dedicated to private collections, with the aim of making works that are normally hidden from public view accessible. Curatorial responsibility will change from one exhibition to the next, involving members of the committee, curators and external professionals, while the displays may be modified throughout the exhibition period through reconfigurations, events and activations.

Behind the project is a committee that has been working on its development for around two years: gallerists Leonardo Caldonazzo Arvedi, Claudia Ciaccio and Paolo Zani, collectors Enea Righi and Lorenzo Paini, project manager Ilaria Dal Lago and Antonio Scoccimarro, a professional working in the cultural and communications sector.

It begins with a group exhibition that changes over time. Inaugurating Sala Effe is La terra piatta è una dimensione lirica del luogo come se regredire fosse inventare, an exhibition curated by Paolo Zani bringing together, among others, Alighiero Boetti, Giorgio de Chirico, Rineke Dijkstra, Peter Fischli and David Weiss, On Kawara, Paola Pivi and Pietro Roccasalva. At its core is the concept of space-time as a non-absolute dimension, continuously modified by experience and interpretation. The structure of the exhibition follows the same idea: until 14 March 2027, some of the works will be replaced every two months, progressively modifying the display. Rather than an exhibition crystallised at the moment of its opening, then, it is a project designed to change together with the time it explores.
