PERFORMING PAC, PAC Milano
From July 3 to September 13, 2026, the PAC in Milan presents the new edition of "PERFORMING PAC," dedicated to collage, assemblage, and installation as a layering of materials and meanings. As in previous editions, the starting point is the "restaging" of a historic PAC exhibition reconstructed from archival materials: the one dedicated to Kurt Schwitters in 2001, curated by Karin Orchard with Luigi Sansone. The title, drawn from the closing lines of T.S. Eliot's "The Waste Land," evokes the idea of "building with ruins," shared by both the poet and the German artist. Building on Schwitters' additive process, seven contemporary artists have been invited to take part — Jacopo Benassi, John Bock, Gabriella Ciancimino, Roberto Cuoghi, Thomas Hirschhorn, Lucia Marcucci, and Mika Rottenberg — who ideally carry forward his legacy.
Arcipelago Botanico. Agostino Iacurci, Portrait Milano
This summer once again brings the Estate Italiana appointment at Portrait Milano, which for 2026 hosts "Arcipelago Botanico," a site-specific installation by Agostino Iacurci, an artist trained at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome. In the great cloister of the former Archiepiscopal Seminary, impossible trees and heraldic flowers give rise to surreal visions in which nature and artifice coexist in perfect balance. The historic sixteenth-century square thus becomes an open-air gallery, animated by vibrantly colored monumental sculptures that engage in dialogue with the space's architectural rigor: an invitation to immerse oneself in a fairy-tale atmosphere, between escapism and pure shared beauty.

Arnaldo Pomodoro. Una vita, Gallerie d'Italia
On the occasion of the centenary of his birth and one year since his passing, the Gallerie d'Italia in Milan pay tribute to Arnaldo Pomodoro with an anthological exhibition that, through forty-five works, traces over sixty years of artistic research. The path winds from his debut in the 1950s to his most recent experiments, moving through the spaces of Palazzo Scala to the garden, where two monumental sculptures bear witness to the artist's lasting bond with Intesa Sanpaolo. The exhibition runs until October 18 at the Gallerie d'Italia.
Le Alchimiste. Anselm Kiefer, Palazzo Reale
Until September 27, 2026, the Sala delle Cariatidi at Palazzo Reale hosts "Le Alchimiste," the imposing exhibition by Anselm Kiefer included in the cultural program of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. Curated by Gabriella Belli, the exhibition presents over forty large-scale canvases created specifically for this space, marked by the 1943 bombings. The project, launched in 2023, revolves around the figure of Caterina Sforza, a scientist and military leader who lived in Milan, author of a rare manuscript of alchemical recipes. Alongside her, Kiefer evokes other alchemists forgotten by history — from Isabella Cortese to Maria the Jewess, to Marie Meudrac and Mary Anne Atwood — restoring to them, through his material and symbolic painting, the crucial role they played in the birth of modern scientific thought.
