At Milan Design Week, Ricoh, a global digital services and printing solutions leader, will unveil its newest innovative technology – a highly evolved inkjet conductive printing technique which uses AI to print special sensors on to all types of fabric.
Ricoh’s “smart” sensors, which are currently under research and development can be used to significantly increase the value and performance of the upholstery or coating on any type of furniture and turn these pieces into tools for higher connectivity to monitor personal parameters, intercept, collect, and process a wide range of data and effectively put them into communication with each other.

The incredible potential of this innovation can be experienced firsthand thanks to “Soul and Soil”, an immersive and interactive installation that will allow visitors to explore the ways in which advanced technologies can help to improve physical and mental wellbeing in workspaces, to fully immerse themselves in Ricoh’s vision for the future, observing the interaction between mind over matter, and also observe their sensations and moods which can be transformed into images and sounds for kinetic art works.

The research carried out by Ricoh aims at evolving the very concept of space within the workplace as well as work life in general. This research will further enhance the value of the company’s portfolio technological know-how and experience through Ricoh 3L - a prototyping programme for human beings to use in the near future, which focuses on themes like teamwork, individuality, and emotional wellbeing.
