In collaboration with Istituto Marangoni Milano Design, a project blending memory and creativity, engaging the public through an online and in-store contest

A timeless style icon, the Smeg FAB28 refrigerator has spanned generations with its unmistakable design and signature colour palette. But the FAB28 is more than just an appliance: it’s a witness to shared moments — tied to food, togetherness, and the atmosphere it has helped create in the homes of those who chose it. It’s an object that connects different eras: from the 1950s, which inspired its design, to the 1990s, when it was developed, right up to the present day.

At the heart of this iconic refrigerator comes Design Holds Memories — an interdisciplinary project born from a collaboration with Istituto Marangoni Milano Design.
Students from the Prisma Project offered a fresh perspective on the Smeg universe, creating new graphic interpretations of the FAB28. Among all submissions, the works of Mariana Prestes, Matteo De Luca, and Yuetong Shi were selected, transforming the refrigerator into an emotional artwork where graphics, memory, and nature come together:

The initiative also involved students from the Master's in Digital Design for Immersive Experiences, who developed an installation for the Smeg store, and those from the Master's in Digital Art Direction, who curated the communication campaign.

At the core of the project is a contest: until the 12th of April the public is invited to vote for their favourite Design Holds Memories FAB28, either online at smeg.com/it/design-holds-memories or in person at the Smeg Flagship Store, via della Moscova 58, Milan.
