A journey through the summer places cherished by creatives, filled with personal memories, hidden corners, and lesser-known spots to discover.
Summer has just begun, bringing with it a desire to slow down, travel, and reconnect with places that—even when far away—make us feel at home. There are locations that somehow belong to us: views that evoke childhood, freedom, and light promises. Places of the heart and memory, where returning feels like a comforting ritual.
We asked a group of creatives - designers, curators, architects, and collectors - to share their favorite destinations: personal places rich with memories, routines, and inspiration. This resulted in a collection of sincere postcards accompanied by tips and secret recommendations, meant to be read with curiosity and saved for later. Perhaps they will inspire you to discover and enjoy new destinations.
Let’s hear from Giulio Iacchetti, a designer who says: "I design, think, and draw all the time and when I can’t draw, I imagine that I am”.
Your favorite summer place?
People who know me well know that I often spend time in Fertilia, a small village near Alghero, in Sardinia. It’s a special place, with a kind of magic that’s hard to explain. There’s something mysterious about it. I was drawn to Fertilia because of its quiet beauty and the feeling of time passing—its old buildings have a kind of charm that comes from the past, even if that past is a bit strange.
Any places to discover in Fertilia?
First of all, the restaurant "La Nuvola" in Tramariglio, near Fertilia. The food is good (even though I don’t think food is the most important part of a restaurant), but I recommend it because of the friendly owners, the very decorated ceiling, and the wild boars that sometimes come by in the evening under the neon lights in the garden. Another great experience is climbing Mount Doglia—on foot or by bike. There’s a military base at the top, but if you get past the gate, the view from up there is amazing: you can see Alghero, Capo Caccia, and all the countryside around. Then there’s the bar in Sa Segada, a perfect place to have a Crodino at the counter. It hasn’t changed since the 1960s, and it feels a bit like being in a movie. I also love Bar Tam Tam, on Bombarde Beach—you might end up talking with the owner, who used to be a rally car driver! And one more place: the old water tower near the Calich lagoon. It was part of a land project from the Fascist era. I always try to climb to the top, even though the ladder is broken. Up there, I imagine what it would be like to live in a medieval tower. Sadly, it belongs to the government and may collapse someday…
Your secret spot?
The Baptistery of the church of Saint Marco. It reminds me of something designed by Aldo Rossi. I dream of having the artist Olimpia Zagnoli paint it one day - but she doesn’t know that yet!
