A journey through the summer places cherished by creatives, filled with personal memories, hidden corners, and lesser-known spots to discover
Summer has just begun, bringing with it a desire to slow down, travel, and reconnect with places that - even when far away - make us feel at home. There are locations that somehow belong to us: views that evoke childhood, freedom, and light promises. Places of the heart and memory, where returning feels like a comforting ritual.
We asked a group of creatives - designers, curators, architects, and collectors - to share their favorite destinations: personal places rich with memories, routines, and inspiration. This resulted in a collection of sincere postcards accompanied by tips and secret recommendations, meant to be read with curiosity and saved for later. Perhaps they will inspire you to discover and enjoy new destinations.
Let’s hear from Nina Yashar.
Can you tell us a little about you?
I'm a gallerist and the founder of Nilufar. My work comes from a deep love for aesthetics and for things that are a bit unusual. Every day, I bring it to life in Milan, between my gallery on Via della Spiga and Nilufar Depot on Viale Lancetti, through curatorial projects and discovery trips.
I grew up surrounded by Persian rugs — my father was a rug dealer — and I think that background really shaped how I approach collectible design. I always pay close attention to craftsmanship, materials, and the stories behind objects. It’s something that’s always with me.
What’s your favorite summer place?
Definitely Patmos. It’s an island I go back to every year. I feel very connected to it — it’s quiet but powerful at the same time. Its beauty feels real, not staged, and I love the contrast between the spiritual atmosphere and the simplicity of everyday life.
Do you know any cool places to visit?
The Monastery of Saint John the Theologian is the spiritual heart of the island. It’s full of history and culture, and the view from up there is stunning. The Church of Prophet Ilias is also beautiful - a small, whitewashed monastery on a hill, with breathtaking views over the Aegean Sea. Its charm lies in its simplicity, like the stone staircase leading to the tiny entrance. Meloi Bay is my favorite spot for early morning swims - peaceful and intimate, with magical light. Psili Ammos is another favorite: you can only reach it by foot or by boat. It’s wild, with no big facilities, and that’s exactly why it’s so beautiful. Agrio Livadi is also a lovely, laid-back beach, perfect for a quiet afternoon.
When it comes to food, I love “To Tsipouradiko Mas.” It serves simple, traditional dishes with care. The tables are right on the beach, with an amazing view of the sea.
Do you have a favorite hidden spot?
Yes, the tiny church of Panaghìa Mavri, the Black Madonna. It’s tucked away between rocks and almost invisible unless you know where to look. It’s a very small place, but full of energy. It’s hard to describe, but it has something deeply magnetic.
