Installations, talks and shared spaces explore the evolving nature of relationships during Milan Design Week

Milan, April 2026 — During Milan Design Week, Portanuova transforms into an open-air laboratory for reflection and dialogue with Blooming Imperfections – Relationships in Progress. The project invites visitors to explore human connections and embrace vulnerability as a resource.

At its heart is the concept of “Essere Progetto”: incompleteness and mistakes are not failures but essential steps in building authentic bonds. Artist and designer Andrea Olivari brings his digital language to life with monumental installations across the district. The artistic trail starts from a triptych depicting three human organs and guides visitors to the works, enhanced by audio narrations from Gabriele Agostinelli and the chance to create personalized digital versions via QR codes.

Interactive photo corners and daily talks in collaboration with Chora Media complete the experience, covering mental well-being, emotional fragility, and interpersonal communication. Guests include Alessandro Cattelan, Prof. Umberto Galimberti, Riccardo Haupt, Chiara Piotto, and content creators Cronache di Spogliatoio.

In Piazza Alvar Aalto, the Flower Bar and Casa Buri’s temporary restaurant bring the theme of connection to life with the iconic social table. Fiuri enriches the space with floral arrangements, which become keepsakes available via the Portanuova app, while Alea furnishes the bar with contemporary, sustainable design.

Portanuova becomes a shared space where art, design, and storytelling invite visitors to care for themselves and others.
