In collaboration with artist Jean-Guillaume Mathiaut, Byredo unveils an immersive installation that brings together fragrance, memory, and materiality at the Chiostro del Cappuccio

The initiative transforms the Chiostro del Cappuccio into a space for contemplation and exchange.

The project takes shape as a limited edition of sculptural wooden seating pieces, created specifically for Byredo. Finished in black with Japanese ink, the works include six pieces: the two main works, Behind the Scenes and Millennium, accompanied by four seats that echo the four cardinal points of the convent. Behind the Scenes pays tribute to the foundations and invisible gestures that have shaped the Maison over the past twenty years, while Millennium invites viewers to turn their gaze toward the future.

Jean-Guillaume Mathiaut, known for his sensitivity to form and material, sculpts the wood directly, guided by the grain and natural density of the material. For Byredo, fragrance is an invisible architecture that builds spaces through memory and emotion; in Mathiaut’s hands, wood becomes a parallel language, perfectly aligned with the Maison’s sensory dimension.

The installation will be open to visitors at the Chiostro del Cappuccio, Via Cappuccio 3/5 in Milan, from April 21 to 25, by registration. Visitors will be able to experience the space both physically and sensorially, where each seat becomes a ritual and fragrance defines the atmosphere.
