Lifestyle — 05 March 2025

The Istituto Europeo di Design introduces new undergraduate and master's degree programs in screenwriting, directing, and film production

According to Paolo Sorrentino, "A practical school is needed, one that puts students on set right away." For Adriano Giannini, the key lies in building a common language between actors and directors.
In response to a growing industry with a 4% annual increase in Italy, IED is investing in cinema with a new educational hub designed for those who dream of writing, directing, and producing impactful stories. The Istituto Europeo di Design thus announces the launch of IED Cinema, the sixth IED school, joining its well-established programs in Design, Fashion, Visual
Arts, Communication, Art, and Restoration
.

"We have historically been surpassed by France in terms of the foresight of their industrial policies, but in Europe, we remain a key market. IED aims to contribute to the revival of the industry in our country, starting from the foundation: education", says Francesco Gori, CEO of the IED Group, emphasizing that these new programs will provide students with direct engagement with the entire film production chain, addressing both the artistic and professional needs of the sector.

Educational Offer

Starting in the 2025/26 academic year, IED Cinema will open its doors in Milan with a bachelor's degree program and a master's degree program with two specializations: screenwriting and film directing, focusing on screenwriting, directing, and editing, and film production, dedicated to the creative and managerial aspects of project production. Master’s programs, workshops, and specialized courses with industry professionals are also planned. The program will be directed by Cristina Marchetti, former director of OffiCine, supported by Paolo Borraccetti and the award-winning Bruno Oliviero, directors and screenwriters with experience in auteur cinema and television series.

A Network of Excellence

IED Cinema relies on a network of relationships with production companies, service providers, professionals, and artistic directors. Among the first collaborations stands Indiana Production, which will offer students the opportunity to participate in internships and training programs. Fabrizio Donvito will be part of the school's Scientific Committee, composed of leading industry figures: Piera Detassis, Paolo Mereghetti, Silvio Soldini, Paolo Sorrentino, Valeria Golino, Pierfrancesco Favino, Fabrizio Donvito, and Adriano Giannini.
