Rethink design as an evolving and responsible act, where humans drive change and build meaningful connections with the world

“Be the Project” is the theme chosen for Fuorisalone 2026. It continues a multi-year journey that has seen Fuorisalone explores urgent and cross-disciplinary themes such as “Between Space and Time” (2022), “Future Laboratory” (2023), “Matter Nature” (2024) and “Connected Worlds” (2025).

“Be the Project” holds two deeply connected meanings: on one hand, the human being as an active force of transformation, driven by vision, desire, and responsibility; on the other, design as an evolving process - one that continually reshapes relationships between people, objects, and the environment.
It is both a way of being and a way of acting: a conscious commitment that unfolds through stories, hands, materials, and experiences, shaping how we relate to the world.

The theme also invites us to embrace change as a condition of existence. Not as a finished form, but as a process that listens. Not as a fixed identity, but one in constant transformation. A project is not only something we create - it is something that shapes who we are: over time, in our bodies, and in our relationships with the world around us.
Today, this world includes new kinds of intelligence - not only human, but artificial, distributed, and non-linear. Artificial intelligence is not a substitute but an otherness: a presence that challenges, amplifies, and questions us. To embody “Be the Project” also means engaging with these emerging intelligences - with learning machines, co-creative algorithms, and systems that expand and reframe our ways of thinking.

Design, then, is not only about making - it’s about relating. With what we don’t fully understand. With what thinks differently. With what has no voice, but still computes, senses, and responds.
In a time of rapid transformation, Fuorisalone 2026 invites us to revisit design as a deep and responsible experience. A return to thoughtful, intentional practice - one that values design as a form of knowledge capable of telling stories through hands, minds, cultures, and materials. And of imagining a more sustainable, inclusive, and mindful future.
