A journey through the summer places cherished by creatives, filled with personal memories, hidden corners, and lesser-known spots to discover
Summer has just begun, bringing with it the desire to slow down, set off, and rediscover places that – even if far away – somehow feel like home. There are places that, in one way or another, belong to us: glimpses that recall childhood, freedom, and light-hearted promises. Places of the heart and memory, where returning each time becomes a small ritual that makes us feel good.
We asked a group of creatives – designers, curators, architects, collectors – to share their favorite destinations: personal places, rich in memories, habits, and inspiration. What emerged is a story made of heartfelt postcards, accompanied by insider tips and suggestions, to read with curiosity and keep in mind: they just might inspire you to discover and savor new destinations.
Let’s hear from Federica Sala.
Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Federica Sala, I’m a design curator and I direct a publication called The Good Life Italia.
What is your favorite summer spot?
Liguria, between Camogli and Recco. As soon as you arrive on one of those lucky summer weekends, you instantly forget the fatigue and traffic of the trip.
Places to discover?
Definitely Muagetti in San Rocco – the perfect place for an aperitivo with a view. Era L’Ora summer bar in Mulinetti Recco perfectly sums up why I love this area. Mulinetti, with its rocky beach, low-key bathing area, and the big Ciappea boulder. Agririfugio I Molini – before discovering this place, I didn’t even know agririfugi (agritourism-style mountain huts) existed. It's the perfect spot for a break during a hike, with an incredible view before heading down to San Fruttuoso for a swim in the sea.
Latterie 1978, a gelato shop that opened a couple of years ago at Camogli’s second little harbor and completely revitalized it. Pescheria Bologna in Recco, for everything you can get there. I Mussini in Portofino, to soak in all that blue.
What’s your secret corner in this place?
The walks on Mount Portofino. There are several trails, each more beautiful than the last, stunning in every season, full of blackberries to pick in the summer – and if you’re lucky, you might even spot wild goats.
