8:18 pm, Tuesday, February 25, 2020: it's time X, Salone del Mobile.Milano changes the dates.
Tuesday, 25 February 2020, the Board of Directors of the Salone del Mobile meets with a single item on the agenda: cancel or postpone the most important event in the world of Design.
At the end of the meeting the new dates are communicated: the Salone del Mobile is only postponed, it will be held from 16 to 21 June 2020, and Fuorisalone from 15 to 21 June 2020.
In our opinion the most appropriate choice has been made, trying to verify in the calendar of trade fairs which was the best moment. In the environment we had been talking about it for days, the choice of June was the best possible.
We are happy with this new opportunity for the operators in the sector, who only see the event they have been working on for months postponed and on which important budgets are often committed for the annual balances.
But what's happening with Fuorisalone?
The Fuorisalone works with different logics, and a two-month shift puts into question all the open relationships between exhibitors and exhibition spaces, between territorial communication projects and their sponsors, technical partners and institutions.
For example, the chosen week coincides in Milan with Men's Fashion Week and many exhibition spaces will be occupied by fashion shows and events. At this point the exhibitors at Fuorisalone will have to understand whether to change location or find a coexistence.
In the hours following such an important communication, the staff of Fuorisalone.it is facing the change with method and responsibility towards all those involved, evaluating all the variables involved.
We are trying to turn problems into opportunities, for example with the possibility of including some events of the fashion week in our communication, with the intention of strengthening the narrative of both events.
The most interesting aspect that we have noticed from the very first moments is the solidarity and active collaboration between all the actors of the Fuorisalone we have contacted: design areas, companies, designers, locations, sponsors, and partners of all kinds have taken the opportunity to network and share opinions and above all concrete proposals in order to rethink another wonderful edition of Fuorisalone.
At this time the approach we are taking is to focus on work, on discussion and on shared plans in order to define a new landscape in the shortest possible time and give answers to all those involved.
With the collaboration and trust in all the operators already contacted and that we will contact in the coming days, we confirm the format that has always made Milan Design Week the most important event in the world of Design.
Milano Design Week = Salone del Mobile + Fuorisalone
